Business on the 'Net'?

INTERNET ... INTERNET ... INTERNET ..... everywhere you look it seems that someone, somewhere is doing something on the Internet. Everyone, it seems has an E-mail address and that very prominent World Wide Web page. With all this hype and exposure you may very well ask yourself "what is all this stuff and as a prudent business person should I be on the Internet?" Lets tackle the first part of this question first.

The Internet started out as a number of computers connected together forming a network. This network was started to facilitate easy and timely communication for the scientific community. To make a long story short, the network grew beyond everyone's expectation and over time technical refinements allowed ease of use enabling anyone with a computer to plug in to what has become known as "The Information Super Highway". Today the Internet is revolutionizing the way people communicate and the way people do business. It is estimated that over 30 million people have access to the Internet. This does not include the numerous part time users who access through public locations such as the library. Some people use the Internet solely for entertainment, most use the Internet to gather information, research products and services and 11% purchase.

Should you be on the Internet?
The answer to this is an overwhelming YES and here are the reasons why. There is absolutely no doubt that the Internet is here to stay and is the way of the future. People accessing the Internet are growing at an astonishing rate and all forward thinking business people are maneuvering to take full advantage of this captive audience. Understanding that the future is NOW is your 1st. step. Becoming an active Internet citizen NOW will position you miles ahead of your competition. The fact is that if you're in business, you will be on the Internet sometimes in the future. Remember those wait and see people who held off using the .... telephone ... cellular phone ... fax? ... probably not, because those same people are no longer in business.

How the Internet Brings you Business.
The food that drives the Internet is information exchange. Every day millions of people, locally and around the globe, plug in to the Internet hungry for information. Every person quote.gif - 5.8 Kon the Internet is a potential customer for your goods and services. Your page on the Internet becomes an extension of your business, generating around the clock exposure. You can provide timely information about your business, upcoming promotions, product descriptions or whatever you like to convey to your customer. From a simple business card to an entire product line; your promotion space is unlimited. A consistent, well laid out presence on the Internet will generate leads, produce inquiries and bring customers to your door!

Smart Marketing on the Information Super Highway.
Like any new marketing vehicle the Internet has its own set of do's and don'ts. Creating an effective Internet presence takes some time and is best left to Internet marketing experts. Be cautions of programmers who will create kool World Wide Web pages without any though to marketing and follow up. Or the Internet Service Provider ( an ISP is like your TV cable company that gives you physical access to the Internet ) who will put anything, anywhere on the Internet. The key term here is effective marketing and this is being offered by full service Internet marketing companies. Look for someone that takes the time to listen to your needs and creates a targeted campaign that is uniform yet changes so as to avoid site stagnation. Someone that thinks marketing first and uses the Internet as a vehicle to deliver your message.
